South Australia

We have now left NSW and have entered S.A. en route to Perth via the Nullabbor. After attending church on Sunday we proceeded via the Barrier Highway towards Adelaide and then turned off this road onto the road to Port Augusta. Last night we stayed at the Peterborough Caravan Park which has superb facilities. Tilly is a great workhorse and has not missed a beat. We've only seen one live kangaroo on our trip as it hopped across our path but we have seen many that have become "road kill". However we've seen a plague of feral goats almost every day as well as lots of wild emus and also one with chicks. In addition we have seen lizards and a goanna when we stopped for lunch yesterday. The weather has been ideal apart from the first day and today is another beautiful sunny day as we head west to Port Augusta and beyond.Thank you for your interest in following our trip.

Broken Hill & Environs

During the past couple of days we have been making the most of our stay at "The Convent", the property of the Churches of Christ, to experience the unique history and creativity of this city and nearby places. Not only have we been impacted by the size of BHP Billiton but also by  the many artists who make a contribution to the culture. Amongst other things,we have visited the mosaic garden, the late  Pro Hart's gallery and also spent time visiting the art gallery of his youngest daughter, Julie, who we found to be, like her father, a Christian. Late yesterday we took in the Living Sculptures at sunset after a fascinating day spent at Silverton and today we travelled to Menindie and its lakes taking in the heritage trail and spending a special time beside the Darling River. Tomorrow before continuing our journey we will attend Sunday morning worship with our hosts. God willing, within the next 24 hours we will be more than one quarter of the way to Perth!

Sydney to Broken Hill via Orange & Cobar

We left Sydney at "the crack of noon" on Tuesday and were delayed by a motor vehicle accident near De Burgh's Bridge before heading west via Bell's Line of Road. Then we went through rain, an amazing hailstorm and sleet near the Zig Zag Railway. We spent our first night in the beautiful city of Orange. Next day we enjoyed gorgeous scenery as the countryside is so lush and green. We've been thoroughly enjoying travelling in our campervan. It's behaving well and so are we! After visiting the large open cut gold mine in Cobar, we stayed in an excellent caravan park there. After a mostly uneventful trip, apart from having to travel for a considerable distance behind a large vehicle carrying heavy machinery which took up the whole roadway, we reached Broken Hill this afternoon and are now staying in lovely facilities provided by the Church of Christ where we will stay for several days. Tomorrrow we head off to Silverton as well as visit other historic sights.

We are leaving for Western Australia this Tuesday in our campervan which we have named "Tilly" - short for Matilda. So that explains the title of this blog. We hope to keep you up to date on our Journey across Australia. It's our plan to reach Perth by the end of September to connect with Pam's cousin Gail and husband Bevan.
